How to Remove a Payment Method by Canceling Your Account With xCloud

If you want to remove a payment method from xCloud, you must first cancel active xCloud services and request account cancellation or account deletion. This protects your account from accidental unpaid renewals while servers, subscriptions, add-ons, or billing records are still active.

Follow this guide to understand what to check before cancellation, how to stop active billing, and what information to send to xCloud Support so your account and saved payment method can be reviewed for removal.

Before you start #

Removing a saved card or payment method is different from canceling one server subscription. If you only want to stop billing for one server, follow How to Cancel xCloud Subscription. If you want your full account and data removed, review How to Delete Your Account and Data With xCloud.

Use this guide when your goal is to remove billing access from the account and you no longer want to keep the xCloud account active.

Why account cancellation is required to remove a payment method #

xCloud may need to keep a valid payment method while your account has active paid services, server subscriptions, add-ons, pending invoices, or billing records connected to renewals. Because of that, payment method removal is handled together with account cancellation or deletion.

This helps prevent a situation where a server or add-on remains active but the account has no valid payment method for renewal. Before requesting removal, make sure you no longer need the active services connected to that billing profile.

Prerequisites #

  • Access to the xCloud account owner or billing email address.
  • A current backup of any site, database, or server data you want to keep.
  • Downloaded invoices or receipts you may need for accounting.
  • Access to your external cloud provider account if you use self-managed servers.
  • Confirmation that you are ready to cancel the xCloud account, not only one server.

Step-by-step #

1. Download backups and billing records #

Download any files you need before cancellation. This can include website backups, database backups, server credentials, invoices, receipts, and records for your team.

After account deletion or service removal is completed, xCloud may not be able to recover deleted site or server data.

2. Cancel active xCloud services #

Cancel active subscriptions by removing the services connected to them. For server subscriptions, delete the server you no longer need. If you have multiple servers, deleting one server only cancels billing for that specific server.

Review any add-ons, managed services, mailboxes, backups, or other paid services connected to your account. If you are not sure which services are still billable, contact xCloud Support before requesting payment method removal.

3. Check external provider resources #

If you connected a self-managed server or brought your own provider account, also check the provider dashboard. External providers may continue billing for servers, volumes, snapshots, backups, reserved IPs, firewalls, or other resources even after you remove the server from xCloud.

xCloud can help with xCloud-side cancellation guidance, but your external provider controls its own billing and resource deletion.

4. Request account cancellation and payment method removal #

After active services are removed, contact xCloud Support and ask for account cancellation with payment method removal review.

Include the following information:

  • Your xCloud account email address.
  • Confirmation that you want to cancel the account.
  • Confirmation that you have downloaded the backups, invoices, and data you need.
  • Confirmation that active xCloud servers and services have been deleted or should be reviewed.
  • Any invoice ID, bill ID, or subscription reference if your request is related to a specific charge.

Do not send your full card number, CVC, or card password. If Support needs to identify a payment method, the last four digits of the card are usually enough.

5. Wait for support confirmation #

xCloud Support will review the account, active services, billing status, and payment method removal request. If there are open invoices, active subscriptions, or remaining services, Support may ask you to resolve those before the payment method can be removed.

6. Keep the final confirmation #

After the request is completed, keep the support confirmation for your records. If you later see a charge, reply in the same support thread with the invoice ID or charge date so the team can review it faster.

Billing and refund notes #

Removing a payment method does not automatically create a refund. Refund eligibility depends on the service type, billing period, usage, and xCloud refund policy. Review the official xCloud Refund Policy before submitting a refund-related cancellation request.

If you use an external cloud provider, provider-side charges are separate from xCloud billing. You must cancel or delete provider-side resources from the provider dashboard to stop provider billing.

What xCloud Support can check #

  • Whether active xCloud services remain on the account.
  • Whether server-related subscriptions were canceled after server deletion.
  • Whether a payment method removal request can be reviewed after account cancellation.
  • Which invoice or bill item is connected to a specific xCloud charge.
  • Whether a refund request should be reviewed under the xCloud refund policy.

What xCloud Support cannot control #

  • Charges created directly by an external cloud provider.
  • Provider-side resources that still exist outside xCloud.
  • Bank processing times after a refund is approved.
  • Recovery of data that was permanently deleted before a backup was downloaded.

FAQ #

Can I remove my card without canceling my account? #

If your account has active paid services, payment method removal requires account cancellation or deletion review. This prevents active services from remaining on an account with no valid payment method.

Does deleting one server remove my payment method? #

No. Deleting one server cancels billing related to that server only. It does not remove the saved payment method from the full account if other services or the account remain active.

Will payment method removal cancel my provider bill? #

No. If you use a separate cloud provider account, you must cancel or delete resources directly from that provider account.

What should I send to Support? #

Send your account email, cancellation confirmation, data-backup confirmation, and any relevant invoice ID or bill ID. Do not send full card details.
