How to Move a Server to Another Team or Account in xCloud
Updated November 7, 2026 · 4 min read
There is no transfer button in the xCloud dashboard. To move a server to another team or another xCloud account, ask our support team. They move the server, its sites and their billing to the team you name. The server itself does not change: same IP address, same sites, no migration and no DNS change.
If the other person only needs to work on the server, you do not need a transfer. Invite them to your team instead (see Share a server without moving it).
When to move a server
Moving a server makes another team its owner. Use it when:
- An agency hands a finished project to a client. You built the site on your server, and the client now wants to own and pay for it.
- You are selling or handing over a business. The new owner has their own xCloud account and team.
- You are tidying up your own teams. A server sits in the wrong team, for example your personal team instead of your company team.
What moves and what stays
| Moves to the new team | Stays with the old team |
|---|---|
| The server and every site on it | Backup destinations (storage providers) you added, such as an S3 bucket |
| The server’s bills and invoices, including past ones | Mailboxes and Mail Delivery (email providers) |
| Bills for add-ons on its sites, such as Site Security Pro and Cloudflare Enterprise domains | Invoices that also include your other servers’ bills |
Backup destinations and email belong to a team, not to one server, because they can serve other sites of the old team. After the move, the sites’ backups still point at the old team’s storage. The new team should add its own storage provider and point each site’s backups at it, as shown in Step 3.
Step 1: Get the new team ready
The person receiving the server needs an xCloud account and a team. If they are new to xCloud, they sign up first. Their team becomes the server’s owner. From the move on, the new team pays the server’s bills, including any that are still unpaid, so they should add a payment method to that team first.
Expected result: The new owner can sign in and can switch to their team.
Step 2: Ask support to move the server
Open a ticket from the team that owns the server today. Use the built-in support portal, and include:
- The name of the server you want to move.
- The team name and owner email of the team that should receive it.
- A line confirming that you want the server, its sites and their billing moved to that team.
Expected result: Support replies when the move is done.
Step 3: Check the server in the new team
The new team’s owner signs in, switches to their team and opens Servers. The server and its sites are listed there. The server no longer shows in the old team.
Then the new owner should:
- Add a storage provider of their own: go to Backup → Backup Settings, select Manage Your Storage Providers, then Add New Provider. Then, for each site, open the site and go to Site Backup → Backup Settings → Remote Backup, select the destination’s pill, choose the new team’s bucket under Bucket and select Save Settings. See Site backups in xCloud.
- Set up email for the sites again if they used the old team’s mailboxes or Mail Delivery.
- Invite anyone who still needs to work on the server, such as the agency that built it.
If something is missing: reply to the same ticket with the server and site names. Support can check what moved.
Share a server without moving it
Often the other person only needs access, not ownership. With Teams, you invite them to your team and choose the servers or sites they can open. You keep the ownership and the billing.
This works in both directions:
- You own the server and the client needs access: invite the client as a team member with access to that server only.
- The client owns the server and you manage it: the client invites your account to their team and gives you Server Admin access to the server. The client keeps the ownership and the billing.

To hand over a whole team with all its servers, do not change your account’s login email to the new owner’s address. That hands over your whole account, not just one team, including your saved payment card and security settings. Ask our support team instead, and they will help you move the servers to the new owner’s team.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a transfer button in the xCloud dashboard?
No. The dashboard has no self-serve transfer. Our support team moves the server for you when you ask from the team that owns it.
Do my sites go offline during the move?
No. The server and its sites stay where they are. Only the team that owns them in xCloud changes, so there is no migration and no DNS change.
Who pays for the server after the move?
The new team. Every bill of the server and of the add-ons on its sites moves with it, including any that are still unpaid. From the move on, the new team pays them, so it should add a payment method first.
Can I keep managing a server after I hand it to a client?
Yes. Ask the client to invite you to their team and give you access to that server. You can then manage it while the client owns it and pays for it.
